Ramallah: Israeli forces raided the city of Ramallah in the central West Bank early Tuesday, targeting the office of Qatar-based Al Jazeera TV. The military operation saw Israeli troops enter central Ramallah and storm Al Jazeera’s office located in Manara Square.

According to Anadolu Agency, witnesses reported that the Israeli forces posted an order to renew the office’s closure and deployed tear gas and stun grenades around the square. The military also increased security measures at Ramallah’s northern entrances and closed main roads, causing significant traffic congestion and disrupting movement for Palestinians.

The closure of Al Jazeera’s offices was initially approved on May 5, 2024, by the Israeli government following a proposal from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi. The closure order has been extended multiple times since.

The West Bank has been experiencing an increase in Israeli military operations and attacks since October 2023. Official Palestinian data indicates that these actions have resulted in the deaths of at least 1,154 Palestinians, injuries to approximately 11,750 individuals, and the arrest of nearly 22,000 people.
