Haifa: An Israeli man was killed and five others were injured in an alleged stabbing attack in Haifa city in northern Israel, police said.

According to Anadolu Agency, the attack occurred at a bus station in the city. The attacker, identified as an Arab Israeli citizen from the Druze community residing in Shafar'am town, was shot dead by security forces. It was noted by police that the perpetrator had returned to Israel a week prior after spending several months abroad.

Israel's national ambulance service, Magen David Adom, confirmed the casualty figures, reporting one fatality and five injuries, including one person in critical condition and two others seriously injured.

The Palestinian resistance group Hamas has labeled the attack as a 'normal response to Israeli crimes against Palestinians' in Gaza and the West Bank. Hamas further called on Palestinians in the occupied territories to 'escalate confrontations with the Israeli army with all possible means.'

Since January 21, at least 64 Palestinians have been killed and thousands displaced due to Israeli raids in the northern West Bank, according to Palestinian figures. These actions followed the deaths of nearly 48,400 Palestinians and injuries to over 111,000 others in an Israeli war on Gaza that began in October 2023. The assault ended with a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement on January 19.

In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
