Gaza: Israeli naval forces intercepted an international aid flotilla destined for the Gaza Strip, detaining activists on board, as reported by the flotilla's organizers.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Global Sumud Flotilla stated that Israeli forces surrounded the vessels sailing towards Gaza to challenge the longstanding blockade. Activists aboard the flotilla reported disruptions in communication, with signal jamming affecting most of the boats. The International Committee for Breaking the Siege on Gaza (ICBSG) confirmed that six ships, including the Alma, Sirius, Adara, and Deir Yassin, were raided by Israeli forces. Several activists shared videos on social media depicting Israeli naval boats approaching the convoy and instructing them to change course.
In related developments, the US Senate failed for a second day to advance funding bills, prolonging a government shutdown that began at midnight. According to Anadolu Agency, procedural votes were held, with a Democratic proposal blocked by Republicans and a Republican stop-gap measure failing to gain Democratic support. The impasse centers on health care reforms and budgetary provisions, with no resolution in sight.
Meanwhile, Russia issued a warning regarding potential US military support to Ukraine. As per Anadolu Agency, Moscow's UN envoy stated that Russia would respond if the US supplies Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine. Russian officials have consistently cautioned against Western arms supplies to Ukraine, emphasizing the risk of escalating the conflict. The US has not officially decided on providing these missiles to Kyiv.
