Beirut: The ongoing Israeli offensive in Lebanon has resulted in the deaths of over 3,000 people and displaced more than a million, according to Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. In a statement released Tuesday, Aoun emphasized the necessity of negotiations with Israel to bring an end to the conflict.

According to Anadolu Agency, President Aoun addressed a meeting with a delegation of syndicate heads, highlighting the severe toll the offensive has taken on Lebanon. He reported that Lebanon has experienced significant loss of life, with over 3,000 deaths, and a staggering displacement of over one million people. Thousands of homes have been destroyed, and the situation shows no signs of resolution.

During the meeting, Aoun stressed the government's responsibility to protect its citizens and the importance of negotiation as the only viable path forward. He reiterated his administration's commitment to maintaining civil peace and internal stability, warning against actions that could lead to strife and serve Israel's interests.

Aoun's call for negotiation follows US President Donald Trump's announcement on Monday that Israel and Hezbollah had agreed to halt attacks against each other after indirect negotiations. Despite this, the Israeli army continued its offensive on Tuesday, even after a truce had been implemented on April 17 and extended for 45 days through US-mediated talks.

According to Lebanon's Health Ministry, the conflict has claimed more than 3,400 lives since it began on March 2. The Lebanese president's statements underscore the urgent need for diplomatic efforts to end the ongoing violence and prevent further loss of life.
