Tel Aviv:Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid expressed concerns about Israel's growing international isolation, attributing the situation to efforts by Hamas, Qatar, and Iran over several years to weaken the country's global ties.
According to Anadolu Agency, Lapid made these remarks at an international counter-terrorism conference at Reichman University. He highlighted various instances of Israel's isolation, such as arrest warrants in The Hague, searches of Israelis' luggage in the Netherlands, disputes over football in Ireland, Eurovision boycotts, and walkouts during Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech at the UN General Assembly.
Lapid, who has previously served as prime minister, criticized Netanyahu's government for its handling of international relations. Netanyahu is facing charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust in three major corruption cases. Additionally, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for him in 2024 on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip.
The conflict in Gaza has persisted, with Israel violating a ceasefire that began on October 10, 2025, three years into what has been described as genocide. Since October 2023, more than 74,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 175,000 injured, with about 90% of Gaza's infrastructure damaged or destroyed. Despite the truce, at least 1,467 people have been killed and 5,161 injured.
