Israeli Opposition Leaders Criticize Netanyahu for Inciting Fear Ahead of Election

Tel Aviv:Two Israeli opposition leaders have accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of inciting fear among Israelis ahead of the upcoming parliamentary election. The criticism comes after Netanyahu shared an artificial intelligence-generated image of a nuclear explosion in Tel Aviv, warning of Iran's nuclear threat and urging continued confrontation with Tehran during the remaining term of US President Donald Trump.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, Gadi Eisenkot, a former Israeli army chief and current leader of the Yashar party, accused Netanyahu of resorting to fear tactics similar to those used in previous campaigns. Eisenkot criticized Netanyahu for threatening citizens with destruction and shifting from promises of absolute victory to a stance of non-surrender.

Yair Golan, leader of the Democrats party, also condemned Netanyahu's actions, calling for him to be banned from social media due to his alleged fear-mongering. Golan expressed confidence in replacing Netanyahu's leadership to restore security and rationality.

The political exchanges occur just days before the parliamentary election on October 27, amidst a competitive race between Netanyahu's camp and opposition parties. Netanyahu's recent campaign focus has been on security threats, particularly Iran's nuclear program, while opponents accuse him of exploiting these issues for political advantage. Eisenkot dismissed Netanyahu's claims of neutralizing Iranian nuclear threats as false, asserting that Iran has never possessed nuclear bombs.
