According to Anadolu Agency – English, the incident occurred during a voter mobilization tour at Railway Park in Tel Aviv. The Democrats party, chaired by Golan, stated that an unidentified man wearing a jacket approached Golan in a threatening manner before being intercepted by his security guards.
As the security team moved toward the man, a large knife fell from his clothing, prompting them to restrain him and call the police. The suspect was subsequently arrested by the police. The Democrats party confirmed that Golan's security team successfully prevented the man from acting and reported that no one was injured during the incident.
The suspect's intentions have not been independently verified, and police have yet to provide details of the ongoing investigation. Golan attributed the incident to political incitement and stated, "Incitement and violence will not deter us." He also urged Israelis to participate in the elections held on Tuesday.
The incident coincided with the general elections in Israel for the 120-seat Knesset, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former army chief Gadi Eisenkot leading the main rival political camps. Neither bloc is guaranteed the 61 seats necessary for a parliamentary majority, suggesting potential coalition negotiations following the vote.
