Ankara: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly clashed with Jared Kushner, US President Donald Trump's envoy and son-in-law, regarding Israel's policy of targeted killings in the Gaza Strip. An Israeli channel reported on Monday that Netanyahu insisted on continuing the assassinations, despite Kushner's opposition.
According to Anadolu Agency, Channel 15 cited an informed source who stated, "There was no agreement between Netanyahu and Kushner on the continuation of the assassination operations." The source added that Netanyahu was firm in his stance to persist with the assassinations, while Kushner expressed his disagreement with the policy.
Netanyahu's meeting on Monday in Israel included Kushner and Nikolay Mladenov, the Board of Peace's high representative for Gaza. Kushner arrived in Israel on Sunday evening after visiting Egypt, where he held discussions with President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Hamas officials, including the group's political bureau chief, Khalil al-Hayya.
The ongoing conflict involves Netanyahu demanding that Hamas fully disarm before any Israeli withdrawal from Gaza can begin. Conversely, Hamas has indicated its willingness to disarm, but only if it is part of a phased and orderly withdrawal by Israel. Netanyahu has previously rejected a 15-point Gaza plan and maintains that Hamas must disarm first, despite a roadmap issued by the Board of Peace on July 31 that calls for simultaneous disarmament and withdrawal actions.
Efforts by mediators to enforce a ceasefire agreement, which took effect on October 10, 2025, continue amid reports of Israeli violations. These violations have resulted in the deaths of 1,262 Palestinians and injuries to 4,168 others, according to the latest figures from Gaza's Health Ministry.
The situation in Gaza remains dire, with reports indicating that since October 8, 2023, Israel's military actions have led to the deaths of over 73,000 Palestinians and injuries to more than 174,000, predominantly affecting women and children. The extensive military operations have also devastated approximately 90% of Gaza's infrastructure.
