Budapest: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed on Thursday to protect Europe and its Middle East allies from what he called an "Iranian axis of evil." Addressing a joint press conference in Budapest alongside Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Netanyahu emphasized Israel's commitment to countering threats posed by Iran, which he perceives as endangering not only Israel but also European nations and regional partners.

According to Anadolu Agency, Netanyahu declared, "We will destroy the Iranian axis of evil that threatens Israel, Europe, and our partners in the Middle East." He reiterated Israel's dedication to safeguarding both its own territory and the broader European region from perceived Iranian aggression.

Netanyahu's arrival in Hungary marks a significant moment as it is his first visit to a European country since the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for him last November, citing allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip. Despite the arrest warrant, Netanyahu traveled to Hungary for a four-day visit, during which he applauded Hungary's recent decision to withdraw from the ICC, describing it as "a bold decision" and criticizing the court as "a corrupt and antisemitic organization."

The Israeli leader also highlighted plans to enhance defense ties and cooperation with Hungary. Human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, have urged Hungary to detain Netanyahu and extradite him to the ICC. Nonetheless, the visit proceeds amid these calls, underscoring the complex political dynamics at play.
