Tel aviv: The Israeli human rights organization "Adalah" has called for the immediate release of activists detained following what they describe as an "illegal attack" on the Global Freedom Flotilla. Adalah's Director, Suhad Bishara, expressed in a video statement that the organization's legal stance is that Israel's intervention in international waters is "absolutely unlawful."
According to Anadolu Agency, Bishara emphasized that Tel Aviv is violating international law frameworks, stressing that the volunteers on the flotilla face no legal consequences as they were not attempting to enter Israel but were heading toward Gaza. She highlighted that "we're talking about 500 activists on board all vessels," and noted that while some journalists have private legal representation, Adalah would be responsible for representing the rest during hearings, advising them beforehand, visiting them in prison, representing them before the immigration tribunal, and ensuring their safety during their stay.
Bishara further asserted that the activists are being brought to Israel against their will, which negates any claims that they entered the country illegally or violated any prior bans. She stated that this situation "does not really have an illegal value," reinforcing Adalah's position that the detention of the activists is baseless under international law.
