Tel aviv: Israel's Security Cabinet has given the green light to a strategic plan proposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu aimed at taking control of Gaza City, as announced by the Prime Minister's Office on Friday via X. The plan involves the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) preparing for an operation to seize control of Gaza City while simultaneously distributing humanitarian aid to civilians situated outside the combat zones. According to Anadolu Agency, the Security Cabinet has also ratified five pivotal principles for the resolution of the ongoing conflict. These include dismantling the Palestinian group Hamas, securing the return of hostages, demilitarizing the Gaza Strip, ensuring Israeli security dominance over the region, and the establishment of a civilian governance structure not led by Hamas or the Palestinian Authority. A majority of ministers within the Security Cabinet concluded that an alternative strategy presented during the discussions would fail to achieve both the defeat of Hamas and th e return of hostages. Consequently, they endorsed the Prime Minister's proposal for a decisive action plan. Barak Ravid from Axios reported earlier that the IDF would proceed with preparations to assume control over Gaza City, ensuring humanitarian aid reaches civilians outside active conflict areas. The terminology used in the official statement, as reported by Ynet, deliberately avoided the term 'occupation,' opting instead for 'takeover' to avoid potential legal ramifications related to the civilian populace. KAN News highlighted that the Security Cabinet meeting extended for approximately 10 hours. Following the meeting, a senior Israeli official communicated to The Jerusalem Post that military operations would commence by focusing on 'terrorist strongholds' within the city, with plans to eventually extend the operation to central refugee camps. This entire strategic military operation is projected to span at least six months.
