Gaza: An elderly Palestinian woman was killed and five others were injured on Thursday when Israeli forces shelled the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza. The attack marks a new breach of the ceasefire that has been in effect since October 10, as reported by medical personnel on the ground.

According to Anadolu Agency, the shelling occurred in an area designated for displaced Palestinians under the first phase of the ceasefire agreement. Despite the ongoing ceasefire, Israel has continued its military actions in the region, further complicating the situation as a powerful winter storm hits Gaza.

Medical sources informed Anadolu that the shelling resulted in the elderly woman's death and caused injuries to five other individuals. The adverse weather conditions, including heavy rainfall that has flooded streets and rain-soaked tents, have significantly hindered evacuation and treatment efforts in the area.

Witnesses reported that Israeli forces fired an artillery shell and a missile at the camp, causing casualties even as severe weather conditions have exacerbated the hardships faced by displaced families in northern Gaza.

In the past 24 hours, Gaza's Civil Defense has received more than 2,500 distress calls from displaced residents dealing with flooded tents and other storm-related challenges. Mahmoud Basal, a spokesperson for the Civil Defense, highlighted the escalating crisis earlier on Thursday.

The Gaza Health Ministry has reported that Israel's repeated ceasefire violations have resulted in the deaths of 383 Palestinians and injuries to 1,002 more. Since October 2023, Israeli attacks in Gaza have claimed the lives of more than 70,300 people, primarily women and children, and injured over 171,000 others.
