Beirut: One person was killed and four others injured in an Israeli strike in southern Lebanon on Monday, in the latest violation of a fragile ceasefire agreement, the Health Ministry said. A ministry statement reported that fighter jets targeted the town of Khiam in the Marjayoun district, resulting in the casualties.

According to Anadolu Agency, there was no immediate comment from the Israeli army regarding the attack. The incident is part of a series of tensions following Israel's military offensive in Lebanon, which began on October 8, 2023. The conflict escalated into a full-scale war by September 2024, resulting in the deaths of more than 4,000 people and injuries to around 17,000.

A ceasefire was established in November; however, Israeli forces have continued to conduct frequent attacks in southern Lebanon. These operations have been justified by Israel as targeting the activities of the Lebanese Hezbollah group. Under the terms of the truce, Israel was to have fully withdrawn from southern Lebanon by January 26, but the deadline was extended to February 18 after Tel Aviv's non-compliance. Israel currently maintains a military presence at five border outposts.
