Israeli Strike Kills Two Senior Academics at Lebanese University in Beirut

Beirut: Israel on Thursday bombed the Lebanese University, killing two senior academics, Lebanon's state-run media reported. The director of the faculty of sciences at the south Beirut campus of the Lebanese University, Hussein Bazzi, and Professor Mortada Srour were killed by the Israeli bombing that targeted the university, Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA) reported. The targeted faculty of sciences was located in a southern suburb of the capital Beirut.

According to Anadolu Agency, on March 2, Lebanese group Hezbollah began attacking Israeli military sites in response to repeated Israeli attacks on Lebanon and the killing of Iran's then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in a US-Israeli strike. Israel retaliated by launching a military campaign in Lebanon, carrying out airstrikes on Beirut's southern suburbs and areas in the south and east of the country, and on March 3 began a limited ground incursion in southern Lebanon.
