Ankara: Despite the announcement of a ceasefire, Israeli forces continued their offensive in Khan Younis and Gaza early Friday morning. Several artillery shells hit the Al-Katiba area in the center of Khan Younis, south of the Gaza Strip, while drones were spotted flying over the city. The eastern part of Gaza City also experienced artillery shelling and gunfire from helicopters.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Israeli government had approved an agreement to end the war in Gaza and exchange prisoners with Palestinian factions. This announcement was made in a statement issued early Friday by the Israeli Prime Minister's Office. A ceasefire was supposed to be effective immediately following Israel's approval, as reported by Israeli media.

On September 29, former U.S. President Donald Trump revealed a 20-point ceasefire plan for Gaza. The plan includes the release of all Israeli captives in exchange for approximately 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, a permanent ceasefire, and a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from the entire Gaza Strip. A subsequent phase of the plan calls for the establishment of a new governing mechanism in Gaza, excluding the Palestinian group Hamas, and the formation of a security force comprising Palestinians and troops from Arab and Islamic countries. The plan also includes provisions for the disarmament of Hamas and stipulates Arab and Islamic funding for a new administration and the reconstruction of the strip, with limited participation from the Palestinian Authority.

The plan has been largely welcomed by Arab and Muslim countries, though some officials have indicated that many details require further discussion and negotiation before full implementation. Since October 2023, Israeli attacks have claimed the lives of nearly 67,200 Palestinians in the enclave, most of them women and children, leaving the area uninhabitable.
