Antalya: Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has emphasized the necessity for "strong security guarantees" in Ukraine while expressing appreciation towards Ankara for facilitating peace talks between Moscow and Kyiv in Trkiye.

According to Anadolu Agency, Tajani articulated his views in a written statement prior to attending the NATO foreign ministers meeting in Antalya, Trkiye. He underscored that Ukraine's future hinges on a just peace, fortified security assurances, and the reconstruction required to mend the conflict's devastation. He conveyed his appreciation for Trkiye's mediation efforts and expressed hope that Russian President Vladimir Putin would heed calls for peace.

Tajani highlighted Ukraine's willingness for dialogue and noted that any failure to hold the Russia-Ukraine meeting or yield substantive results would indicate Russia's lack of interest in peace, suggesting it may be stalling for time. He also referenced the upcoming Ukraine Recovery Conference scheduled in Rome on July 10-11, which will be attended by heads of government. This conference is pivotal in showcasing Italy's support for Kyiv and its people.

The NATO meeting in Antalya presents an opportunity to reaffirm collective commitment to strengthening the Atlantic Alliance and its comprehensive security concept, especially in anticipation of the June Hague Summit. Tajani emphasized the importance of resource allocation and addressing emerging security challenges during the meeting.

On the situation in Gaza, Tajani expressed Italy's deep concern and reiterated the call for a ceasefire, urging Israel to adhere to international humanitarian law. He described the situation as unjustifiable due to the severe impact on the Palestinian civilian population.

Tajani also praised the "excellent ties" between Italy and Trkiye, highlighting the recent successful intergovernmental summit in Rome and the ongoing collaboration on global and regional issues, including efforts to combat illegal immigration. He pointed out the importance of cooperation in trade, defense, and academic exchanges, noting the value of Turkish students in Italy's educational system.
