Astana: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Thursday described Kazakhstan as an 'important partner' in Central Asia during a meeting with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in the capital Astana, where the two leaders discussed strengthening economic and political relations, according to the Kazakh presidency.

According to Anadolu Agency, Tokayev expressed his honor in welcoming Prime Minister Meloni to Kazakhstan, highlighting Italy's role as one of Kazakhstan's leading trading partners in Europe. He expressed confidence that the negotiations would provide fresh momentum to the bilateral ties between the two nations. Tokayev also mentioned the involvement of Italian companies in a business forum held in Astana, underscoring the economic collaboration between the countries.

During her first official visit to Kazakhstan, Meloni praised the organization of the inaugural Italy-Central Asia summit, emphasizing the importance of fostering regional partnerships. She described the visit as a historic moment in Italy's relations with the region, acknowledging Kazakhstan's role as a key partner for Italy and Europe amid the growing strategic importance of Central Asia.
