Italy Condemns Denial of Entry to Cardinal at Jerusalem Church

Jerusalem: Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on Sunday described the denial of entry to the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, at a church in Jerusalem as “unacceptable.”

According to Anadolu Agency, Tajani expressed his disapproval on the US social media platform X, stating, “It is unacceptable that they were prevented from entering the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.” He highlighted the unprecedented nature of the event, noting that for the first time, the Israeli police prevented the leaders of the Catholic Church from celebrating Palm Sunday Mass at one of the most sacred sites for millions of faithful worldwide.

Tajani further mentioned that the Israeli ambassador has been asked to communicate Rome’s protest to Tel Aviv regarding this incident. He emphasized Italy’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the freedom of religion is safeguarded at all times and under all circumstances.
