Rome: Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani reaffirmed support for the Palestinian Authority on Wednesday during a phone call with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa. Tajani stated Italy's commitment to strengthening ties with the Palestinian Authority and enhancing collaboration with the European Union.

According to Anadolu Agency, Tajani emphasized Italy's role in pushing for an urgent return to a ceasefire in Gaza and called for the release of all hostages. He highlighted Italy's humanitarian efforts, noting the country's active participation in providing assistance to the civilian population.

Furthermore, Tajani reiterated Italy's commitment to a two-state solution to the Palestine-Israel conflict, expressing Rome's dedication to achieving a resolution of two peoples, two states. This stance underscores Italy's long-standing foreign policy approach in the region.

The Israeli army renewed its assault on Gaza on March 18, disrupting a previously agreed upon ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal from January. Since October 2023, Israel's actions have resulted in the deaths of more than 50,700 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, and have severely damaged the living conditions in Gaza, rendering the area almost uninhabitable.
