Tokyo: Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya announced that Japan will continue its diplomatic efforts to ensure the implementation of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran.

According to Anadolu Agency, Iwaya made these remarks during a meeting in Tokyo with Jasem Al Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). A statement from Japan's Foreign Ministry detailed the discussions, where Iwaya emphasized Japan's commitment to facilitating the ceasefire and reopening dialogue channels.

Iwaya also expressed Japan's hopes for the GCC's role in stabilizing the global oil market and called for enhanced political and economic relations between Japan and the GCC.

Al Budaiwi highlighted the importance of dialogue among the involved nations for regional stability, asserting the GCC's dedication to promoting such discussions.

Both sides conveyed shared concerns regarding threats to navigation freedom and attacks on oil infrastructure, reinforcing their cooperation to support Middle East peace and stability.

The conflict between Israel and Iran began on June 13 with Israeli airstrikes on various Iranian sites, resulting in significant casualties. Retaliatory actions by Iran included missile and drone strikes, leading to further loss of life and injuries. The US also conducted bombings on Iranian nuclear sites during this period. The hostilities concluded with a US-sponsored ceasefire effective from June 24.
