Japanese and Qatari Leaders Discuss US-Iran Conflict in Tokyo

Tokyo:The Japanese and Qatari prime ministers met in Tokyo to discuss the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran.

According to Anadolu Agency, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi expressed concern over military tensions involving Iran and disruptions to the maritime order. She emphasized Japan's respect for Qatar's mediation efforts, which aim to stabilize the situation following a framework agreement mediated by Pakistan and Qatar.

The discussions highlighted ongoing efforts to end the seven-month conflict that has involved US strikes on Iran and Iranian attacks on US bases and energy facilities in the Gulf region, including Qatar. Takaichi conveyed Japan's intention to closely collaborate with Qatar and outlined plans to enhance the economic and energy resilience of Gulf countries.

The meeting also addressed bilateral relations, focusing on strengthening cooperation in energy, investment, and artificial intelligence. The Japanese Foreign Ministry reported that Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani also met with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, who expressed concern over the disruption of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and its economic impact.
