Tokyo: Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Wednesday lauded US President Donald Trump's "tremendous leadership" in reaching a trade agreement between the two sides. His remarks came after Trump announced that the US and Japan had reached a "massive" trade deal.

According to Anadolu Agency, Ishiba expressed his appreciation for the deal that prioritizes "investment over tariffs," noting that both countries will benefit from the agreement. Automobile tariffs and reciprocal tariffs have been set at 15%. Ishiba conveyed his gratitude to President Trump for his leadership in achieving the accord via a post on X.

The Japanese prime minister also acknowledged the efforts of Ryosei Akazawa, his top tariff negotiator, and his team for their work in finalizing the agreement with Washington. Ishiba emphasized the potential for a "new Golden Era" for Japan and the US, to be built in collaboration with President Trump.

In his statement on Truth Social, Trump highlighted that Japan, under his directive, will invest $550 billion into the United States, with the US receiving 90% of the profits. He asserted that the deal would create hundreds of thousands of jobs and facilitate trade in sectors such as automobiles, trucks, rice, and specific agricultural products.
