Tel aviv: Israel and the US have reportedly targeted more than 2,000 sites across Iran in a joint military campaign that began early Saturday. The Wall Street Journal, citing two individuals briefed on the operation, reported the extensive aerial strikes conducted by the two countries.

According to Anadolu Agency, the strikes commenced on Saturday morning, with the Israeli military confirming the deployment of thousands of munitions and the execution of over 700 sorties over Iranian territory. The operation targeted senior military and political figures, including Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Additional targets included air defense systems, ballistic missiles and their launchers, intelligence facilities, and command centers.

An Israeli military official revealed to the newspaper that Israeli and US forces collaborated for months to develop a comprehensive target list, investing significant time in intelligence gathering and operational planning. The joint offensive reportedly resulted in the deaths of several top Iranian leaders, including Khamenei. In retaliation, Tehran launched a series of drone and missile attacks against Israel, US assets, and multiple Gulf countries.

This escalation follows a prior Israeli-US attack on Iran last June, which led to a 12-day conflict before a ceasefire was established.
