Jordan: Jordan on Wednesday appointed Maj. Gen. Majdi al-Harasis as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, succeeding Gen. Yousef Huneiti, who retired after nearly seven years in the post. A royal decree officially appointed Harasis to the position, effective from September 2.

According to Anadolu Agency, a separate royal decree promoted Harasis from brigadier general to major general. Two other decrees elevated Huneiti to the rank of general and placed him in retirement. In a letter addressed to Harasis, King Abdullah instructed the new army chief to continue efforts in restructuring Jordan's armed forces, enhancing their ability to address challenges and threats efficiently.

Huneiti had been serving as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff since July 2019, marking a significant milestone as the first officer from the Royal Jordanian Air Force to hold the position.
