New York:Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi has warned that Israel will persist in implementing policies that undermine peace efforts unless it is met with effective international deterrence.

According to Anadolu Agency, Safadi made these remarks during a meeting held on the first anniversary of the New York Declaration Conference. This event, organized by France, Britain, Canada, and Saudi Arabia, took place alongside the 81st UN General Assembly in New York.

Safadi emphasized the necessity for international support for the two-state solution to be transformed into concrete steps that deter Israel, cautioning that Israeli policies are currently jeopardizing peace prospects. He pointed out that while the international community aims for a just peace, the Israeli government's actions are obstructing the two-state solution, which he described as the sole path to peace, through measures that breach international law.

He further noted that Israel seems indifferent to the positions of most countries backing the two-state solution, as it has not been held accountable for policies undermining peace or faced effective international deterrence. Safadi appreciated the nations that have recognized Palestine and taken steps against Israeli policies but stressed the necessity for more comprehensive and robust actions to address settlement expansion, land confiscation, and the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza.

The meeting was inaugurated by French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also in attendance. The event saw participation from heads of state and representatives from 29 countries, as well as the European Union.
