Amman: Jordan announced on Sunday that it executed three airdrops over the Gaza Strip amid a worsening famine resulting from Israel's prolonged blockade. The Jordanian army delivered a total of 25 tons of food and essential humanitarian supplies to various areas across Gaza, as reported by the state news agency Petra.

According to Anadolu Agency, one of the airdrops was carried out in coordination with the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Petra emphasized that these airdrops are part of Jordan's ongoing efforts to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians and provide support to the civilian population. The situation has been exacerbated by the devastation from the ongoing Israeli military actions.

Since October 2023, Jordan has conducted 127 unilateral airdrops in Gaza and has participated in 267 joint operations with allied countries. The blockade on Gaza, imposed by Israel for 18 years, has intensified since March 2 when all crossings were closed, further deteriorating the humanitarian conditions within the enclave.

The Gaza Health Ministry reports that at least 133 people, including 87 children, have died of starvation since October 2023. On Tuesday, the World Food Program highlighted that one-third of Gaza's population had gone without food for several days due to the continued Israeli blockade.

International calls for a ceasefire have been rejected by the Israeli army, which has maintained a fierce offensive on Gaza since October 7, 2023. The offensive has resulted in the deaths of nearly 60,000 Palestinians, the majority being women and children. The relentless attacks have devastated the enclave and caused severe food shortages.

In a significant development last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice concerning its actions in the enclave.
