Jordanian Foreign Minister Holds Talks with Syrian President Amidst Political Transition

Damascus: Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi met with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa during a visit to Damascus on Thursday, as reported by Syrian state media. The meeting, attended by Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, was a part of ongoing diplomatic engagements between the two nations.

According to Anadolu Agency, the state news agency SANA did not disclose details about the content of the discussions. The Jordanian Foreign Ministry noted that Safadi was expected to hold expanded discussions with President Sharaa, but no further information was provided.

The political landscape in Syria has undergone significant changes recently. Assad, who led Syria for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia on December 8, marking the end of the Baath Party's longstanding regime, which had been in power since 1963. A transitional Syrian administration was established on January 29, 2025, leading to the dissolution of the constitution, security services, armed factions, the Baath Party, and parliament.
