Jordan: Jordan's King Abdullah will undertake a week-long visit to China, as announced by Beijing on Monday. Abdullah's trip is set to commence on Tuesday, following an invitation from Chinese President Xi Jinping, as confirmed by a statement from the Foreign Ministry.
According to Anadolu Agency, the visit will include meetings with President Xi, along with trips to Shanghai and Shenzhen. Lin Jian, the Foreign Ministry spokesman, conveyed that this marks Abdullah's ninth visit to China since he ascended to the throne in 1999. During the visit, King Abdullah and President Xi are expected to discuss bilateral, regional, and international issues. The discussions aim to contribute positively to regional peace and stability.
In addition to President Xi, King Abdullah will meet with Chinese Premier Li Qiang and the top lawmaker Zhao Leji. The visit is scheduled to conclude on August 24. China and Jordan have maintained diplomatic relations since 1977, with bilateral trade escalating to $6.7 billion. Last year, China became Jordan's top trading partner, reflecting significant economic ties between the two nations.
Jordanian Investment Minister Tareq Abu Ghazaleh highlighted the importance of this visit in an earlier conversation with Xinhua news agency. He expressed hopes of enhancing Jordan's economic partnership with China to broader levels, emphasizing mutual interests and sustainable development.
In a related development, Beijing also announced that Chilean Foreign Minister Francisco Perez Mackenna is set to make an official visit to China from August 18 to 22.
