Manhattan: Former US Vice President Kamala Harris announced on Friday that she is contemplating a bid for the presidency in 2028, indicating the possibility of her third attempt to secure the nation’s highest office. Harris responded to Rev. Al Sharpton’s query at the National Action Network’s conference, stating, “Listen, I might. I’m thinking about it.”
According to Anadolu Agency, Harris emphasized her experience, having served four years as vice president, with frequent engagements in the West Wing and the Oval Office. She highlighted her familiarity with the presidency’s demands, mentioning her extensive time spent in critical decision-making environments, including the Situation Room.
Harris also mentioned her travels across the United States over the past year, particularly in the South, and highlighted the inadequacies of the current system, stating it has not been effective for many Americans for a long time.
Harris previously ran for president in 2020 but did not secure the Democratic nomination. She later served as Joe Biden’s running mate, only to replace him as the Democratic nominee in the 2024 election, where she was defeated by President Donald Trump. Despite her 2024 loss, she has kept a low profile, opting not to run for California governor last year, which has led to speculation regarding her intentions for a 2028 presidential bid.
