Astana: Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree on Friday to dismiss the government following the country's first legislative election under a new unicameral parliament system. The decision marks a significant political shift in the Central Asian nation as it transitions from a bicameral to a unicameral parliamentary structure.

According to Anadolu Agency, the decree was made public by the Kazakh presidential press service after Sunday's election for the new parliament. The current Cabinet is set to continue its duties until a new government is approved by the newly formed parliament, known as the Kurultai.

The recent election was the inaugural event for Kazakhstan's 145-member Kurultai, which was established after the adoption of a new constitution earlier this year. This change reflects the country's ongoing efforts to reform its political landscape.
