Washington: Kazakhstan and the US have taken a significant step in strengthening economic ties by signing a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in critical minerals. The agreement, which underscores the commitment of both nations to collaborate on securing essential resources, was signed by Kazakhstan's Industry and Construction Minister Yersain Nagaspayev and US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnik. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who is currently visiting the US to participate in the 10th C5+1 diplomatic summit.
According to Anadolu Agency, President Tokayev is attending the summit, hosted by US President Donald Trump, which involves the US and five Central Asian nations. The memorandum's signing followed discussions between President Tokayev and US officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs Sergio Gor. These talks focused on enhancing the strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and the US through economic collaboration.
The presidential press service, Akorda, highlighted that President Tokayev sees 'excellent opportunities' for Kazakhstan and the US to strengthen their partnership. Tokayev emphasized the active political relationships between the two countries and expressed readiness for a constructive dialogue to deepen their cooperation across multiple facets.
A statement from the US State Department further elaborated on the discussions between Tokayev and Rubio, noting their focus on expanding commercial trade and investment opportunities.
