Pyongyang: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has stated that the ties between North Korea and Russia have evolved into an 'indestructible, genuine relationship between comrades-in-arms and alliance.' Kim conveyed these sentiments in a congratulatory message to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the occasion of Russia Day.

According to Anadolu Agency, the message was communicated via the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) and was sent on the eve of Russia Day, which commemorates the 1990 adoption of the declaration of state sovereignty of the Russian Federation by the Russian parliament. Kim's message also comes as the two countries observe the first anniversary of a mutual defense treaty signed last June, which promises military assistance "without delay" should either nation come under attack.

Kim underscored that the friendship between Moscow and Pyongyang has been further solidified by the military comradeship forged between their troops during the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. He expressed a commitment to "stand with" Russia, affirming North Korea's "unshakeable" resolve to continue developing bilateral relations.

North Korea has actively participated in the conflict, with approximately 15,000 troops reportedly sent to Russia since October last year to support Russian forces against Ukraine, as reported by the Seoul-based Yonhap news agency. In April, North Korea officially confirmed for the first time its deployment of troops to Russia under the terms of their mutual defense treaty.
