Moscow: The Kremlin announced that Russia is prepared to take necessary actions to address the underlying causes of the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov conveyed this during a briefing, emphasizing Moscow's readiness to mediate in the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran if required.

According to Anadolu Agency, Peskov's statement follows US President Donald Trump's expression of openness to Russian President Vladimir Putin serving as a mediator in the conflict. This conflict began when Israel launched strikes on Iranian nuclear and military facilities. Putin has communicated Russia's willingness to mediate between Tel Aviv and Tehran through phone calls with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Peskov highlighted Moscow's ongoing communications with both nations and stressed the importance of avoiding actions that could endanger Russian citizens. He expressed condemnation for actions leading to the dangerous escalation of tensions. The Kremlin has already facilitated the evacuation of some Russian citizens from Iran via Azerbaijan, and Peskov acknowledged Netanyahu's remarks about potential regime change in Iran as a result of Israel's attacks.

Peskov noted a significant consolidation within Iranian society in response to the Israeli bombings. He reiterated that Russia's proposal to store Iranian uranium remains available, although the recent conflict has complicated the situation regarding Tehran's nuclear program.

Tensions in the region have risen since Israel's coordinated airstrikes on Iran's military and nuclear sites last Friday, which led to retaliatory strikes from Tehran. Israeli authorities have reported at least 24 fatalities and hundreds of injuries resulting from Iranian missile attacks since the conflict's onset.
