Kremlin Asserts US Seeks Quick Resolution to Ukraine Conflict, Citing Complexity and Length

Moscow: Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated on Saturday that the United States desires a swift resolution to the conflict in Ukraine, but he emphasized that it is a complex and lengthy process.

According to Anadolu Agency, Peskov highlighted the challenges in resolving the conflict, comparing it to the intricate negotiations required for US agreements with Iran.

Peskov mentioned that extending the ceasefire with Ukraine beyond May 11 has not been discussed yet, as reported by state news agency TASS. He also addressed the possibility of President Vladimir Putin engaging in talks with US President Donald Trump, indicating that no new conversations are planned at this time. In response to Trump's comments about potentially sending a US delegation to Moscow for peace talks, Peskov expressed Russia's readiness to host such a delegation, though no specific plans have been established.

In addition, Peskov assured that there were no attempts to disrupt the Victory Day celebrations in Moscow, which included a military parade attended by Putin and several foreign leaders. Prior to the celebrations, Moscow declared a two-day unilateral ceasefire on May 8-9 and warned of a massive missile response if the events were disrupted. Kyiv later announced a ceasefire starting at midnight Tuesday, but both sides accused each other of violating the truce.

On Friday, Trump announced on his Truth Social media platform that Russia and Ukraine agreed to a three-day ceasefire and a 1,000-for-1,000 prisoner exchange, expressing optimism that this could signal the beginning of the end of the conflict. He noted that talks are ongoing to end what he described as the major conflict since World War II, with progress being made daily.
