Moscow: Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Monday stated that recent US strikes on Iran's nuclear sites have severely undermined the global nuclear non-proliferation regime. He emphasized the need for the international community to address the future of the so-called 'nuclear club.' Peskov remarked, "There is a nuclear non-proliferation regime. De jure it exists, de facto it was dealt a huge blow by these strikes that took place on Iranian territory," highlighting the gravity of the situation.

According to Anadolu Agency, the US military action targeted Iran's Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear sites, as announced by US President Donald Trump. These attacks represent a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict involving Israeli military actions against Iran's nuclear and military facilities, which have been ongoing since June 13. Iran has responded with retaliatory missile strikes, further fueling tensions in the region.

Rafael Grossi, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), has also expressed concerns, noting that the continued conflict in Iran risks destabilizing the nuclear non-proliferation regime. This regime, governed by the 1968 Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), aims to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons, promote peaceful nuclear energy use, and encourage nuclear disarmament.

During a meeting in Moscow between President Vladimir Putin and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Peskov mentioned that various issues were discussed, focusing on potential prospects for a peaceful resolution. He noted that the conflicting parties hold completely different positions on the matter. When questioned about any specific requests from Iran beyond humanitarian aid, Peskov refrained from providing details, stating only that "the situation is still very tense."
