Ankara:The Kremlin has accused the United Kingdom of attempting to foster anti-Russian sentiment during Prime Minister Andy Burnham's address to the United Nations General Assembly.

According to Anadolu Agency, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on Burnham's announcement of a new center to combat Russian 'disinformation.' Peskov claimed that the UK premier's speech contained nothing new and accused London of maintaining an atmosphere of 'total Russophobia,' with other European countries like Germany and France following suit.

Peskov described the approach as a 'shortsighted policy' that does not contribute to reducing tensions and de-escalation in Europe. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Burnham told the General Assembly that the UK would continue to build up its deterrence capabilities but would avoid engaging in escalatory rhetoric with Russia. Burnham also accused Russian agencies of amplifying far-right narratives and interfering in the UK's 2019 general election.

The Kremlin also addressed ongoing issues with Ukraine, stating that Ukrainian strikes on Russia continue without signs of peace negotiations. Peskov reiterated that Russia remains open to talks and offered security guarantees for a potential meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Additionally, Peskov mentioned ongoing discussions with Damascus regarding Russian military bases in Syria. He expressed satisfaction with the progress of these talks and looked forward to further cooperation. Russia and Syria recently announced a memorandum to reorganize Russia's military presence, with Syria assuming control of civilian facilities and redefining Russian military facilities as joint training centers. The transition is expected to be completed within three months.
