Moscow: The Kremlin on Tuesday stated its rejection of a call by the EU foreign policy chief to boycott Russia's Victory Day celebrations in Moscow next month, labeling the suggestion as incorrect.

According to Anadolu Agency, on Monday, Kaja Kallas urged EU member states and candidate countries to abstain from attending the events scheduled for May 9. She encouraged representatives of EU institutions to visit Ukraine frequently to show solidarity with Kyiv, expressing that any participation in the Russian events would be viewed poorly by Europe, given the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded to Kallas' comments, noting the harshness of her statements and asserting that they are incorrect. Peskov emphasized that some European countries might reject such rhetoric, suggesting that sovereign nations in Europe should evaluate Kallas' remarks, which he described as threats.

Peskov further accused European countries of supporting Kyiv's intent to continue the conflict in Ukraine, despite ongoing peace talks between Russia and the US. Victory Day is a holiday observed in Russia and several former Soviet states to commemorate the surrender of Nazi Germany during World War II, often referred to as the Great Patriotic War.

The May 9 celebrations include an annual military parade in Moscow's Red Square, which has historically been attended by foreign leaders.
