Moscow: The Kremlin on Sunday stated that the new foreign policy configuration of the current US administration under President Donald Trump ‘largely’ aligns with Russia’s vision. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in an interview with state TV channel Rossiya-1, expressed this sentiment. The interview was recorded on Wednesday, and excerpts were shared by journalist Pavel Zarubin on Telegram.

According to Anadolu Agency, Peskov highlighted the recent voting behavior of Russia and the US at the UN General Assembly as a significant development. Both countries voted against a draft resolution on February 24, calling for a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in Ukraine. Peskov described this alignment in voting as ‘truly unimaginable,’ given the historical context of their relations.

Peskov also discussed ongoing efforts to restore Russia-US ties, mentioning that attempts are underway to improve various aspects of bilateral relations. However, he acknowledged that there is a ‘long road ahead’ due to the damage inflicted on these ties under the previous US administration. He noted that the political will of President Vladimir Putin and President Trump could facilitate a quicker and successful journey towards improvement.

Furthermore, Peskov emphasized the necessity of outlining potential topics for cooperation between Moscow and Washington, though he cautioned against expecting immediate results. In addition, he commented on French President Emmanuel Macron’s lack of communication with Putin, referencing Macron’s recent interview with French media, where he did not dismiss the possibility of dialogue with the Russian leader.
