Kuwait city: Kuwait announced it had thwarted a plot targeting state leaders and uncovered a network allegedly linked to Lebanon's Hezbollah group. In a statement, the Interior Ministry revealed that the state security apparatus had successfully disrupted the plan following extensive surveillance and security monitoring efforts.
According to Anadolu Agency, authorities detained six suspects within Kuwait, including five Kuwaiti nationals and one non-Kuwaiti whose citizenship had been revoked. Additionally, 14 other suspects remain abroad, as reported by the ministry. The suspects comprise five Kuwaiti nationals, five individuals with revoked Kuwaiti citizenship, two Iranian nationals, and two Lebanese nationals.
The Interior Ministry's statement indicated that the network was associated with the banned Hezbollah organization, with plans for assassination operations targeting state leaders. The suspects were also reportedly involved in recruiting individuals to execute these attacks. Authorities noted that the suspects admitted to joining the group, communicating with its members, and were prepared to carry out missions aimed at harming the country's leadership and national interests.
The ministry further stated that the suspects confessed to receiving advanced military training abroad, which included the use of weapons and explosives, surveillance methods, and assassination techniques. Hezbollah has not immediately commented on these accusations, although it has denied similar allegations recently.
Last week, the Interior Ministry reported foiling a terror plot targeting vital facilities in the country following security surveillance and investigations. This led to the arrest of 10 Kuwaiti nationals allegedly linked to Hezbollah. Ten days prior, the ministry announced the dismantling of another group composed of 14 Kuwaiti nationals and two Lebanese nationals, accused of ties to Hezbollah and plotting acts to destabilize the country and undermine its sovereignty. At that time, Lebanon condemned the alleged plot and Hezbollah's involvement, while the group refuted the accusations as 'false and baseless allegations.'
