Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday said his country expects the key foundations of Ukraine's security to be defined 'shortly,' as he held talks with US special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg.

According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy expressed the United States' readiness to be part of the security architecture for Ukraine, with active efforts underway to shape it. He conveyed that the key foundations of security are expected to be established soon, following discussions with Kellogg in the Ukrainian capital.

Zelenskyy mentioned that he had a 'good' meeting with Kellogg, expressing Ukraine's deep gratitude to Washington for its support and valuing US President Donald Trump's determination to achieve real peace. He emphasized the importance of realizing the outcomes of his meeting with Trump and some European leaders in Washington, DC, last Monday.

The Ukrainian president described the Summit as a successful demonstration of true unity between Europe and America, stating that Ukraine continues to unite the world. He noted that discussions with Kellogg also focused on influencing Russia to engage in 'real negotiations.'

Zelenskyy stressed that sanctions and tariffs must remain on the agenda and expressed Ukraine's readiness to engage in a leaders' format to address the key issues in ending the Russia-Ukraine war. He called for a similar readiness from Moscow.

Highlighting the significance of military cooperation, Zelenskyy listed agreements on arms procurement and drones as strong opportunities to bolster the arsenals of both Ukraine and the US. Kellogg arrived in Kyiv on Sunday to participate in events celebrating Ukraine's 34th Independence Day and held discussions with other key Ukrainian officials, including Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal.

Security guarantees for Ukraine have become a major challenge amid ongoing diplomatic efforts led by Trump to end the three-and-a-half-year-long Russia-Ukraine war.
