Guangzhou: At least two people are dead and five are missing following a rain-induced landslide that trapped over a dozen individuals in southern China's Guangdong province, state media reported on Thursday. The incident took place on Wednesday in Guangzhou, the provincial capital.

According to Anadolu Agency, local authorities, as cited by Xinhua News Agency, have confirmed that rescuers have extracted nine people from the debris, with two of these individuals confirmed dead. A search and rescue operation is actively ongoing to locate the remaining missing individuals.

The landslide comes amid widespread evacuations in the region, with more than 75,000 people in Guangdong being evacuated due to heavy rains. The situation follows severe weather conditions in northern Beijing last month, where 44 people lost their lives.
