Brussels: A Spanish member of the European Parliament has urged the European Commission to prohibit Israeli military companies from accessing EU funds, pointing to their potential involvement in the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

According to Anadolu Agency, Nacho Sanchez Amor, a socialist MEP and member of the European Parliament's Subcommittee on Human Rights, emphasized the need for the EU to maintain consistency in its approach to human rights violations. He articulated that the EU should not be seen as having 'double standards' in these matters.

Amor expressed his concerns on social media platform X, criticizing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for what he described as genocidal actions against the Palestinian population in Gaza since late 2023. He stressed that the EU must not be complicit in such actions.

The appeal to the European Commission was made in collaboration with fellow Spanish MEP Sandra Gomez. Both lawmakers highlighted the necessity of preventing EU funds from potentially supporting military activities in conflict zones.
