Ankara: The Lebanese army announced on Sunday that ongoing Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon have impeded its deployment efforts under existing agreements and have prevented displaced residents from returning to their areas. The army emphasized that these actions are obstructing the restoration of stability in the region.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Israeli military has continued its attacks, systematically destroying homes and violating international law through shelling and machine-gun fire in several southern areas. The Lebanese army's statement highlighted that these attacks have occurred in the town of Kfar Tebnit in Nabatieh, and the towns of Haddatha and Qounine in Bint Jbeil, as well as Nabaa Ebel al-Saqi, Mansouri, Beit al-Sayyad, and Majdal Zoun in Tyre.

The Lebanese army's statement further reported that Israeli forces targeted a water project belonging to the Litani River National Authority in the town of Markaba in the Marjeyoun District. Additionally, the Israeli military has been accused of burning ancient olive trees and vast agricultural lands, notably on the outskirts of the town of Aitaroun in Bint Jbeil. The army also reported Israeli fire near Lebanese army positions in the towns of Kfar Tebnit, Nabatieh al-Fawqa, and Zawtar al-Gharbiya, though the timing of the attacks was not specified.

In recent developments, the Lebanese army commenced its deployment in the town of Zawtar al-Gharbiya in Nabatieh on Tuesday, marking the first phase of a US-mediated framework agreement between Beirut and Tel Aviv that was reached last month.

Official Lebanese figures indicate that since March 2, Israeli attacks in Lebanon have resulted in the deaths of 4,330 people and injuries to 12,236 others. Israel continues to occupy parts of southern Lebanon, some of which have been held for decades, while others were seized during the conflict between October 2023 and November 2024.
