Beirut:The Lebanese army has firmly rejected Israeli accusations regarding its alleged failure to disarm Hezbollah and dismantle the group's military infrastructure south of the Litani River, a requirement outlined in the November 2024 ceasefire agreement. The army has accused Israel of spreading misinformation to undermine its credibility amid ongoing negotiations.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, the Lebanese army dismissed Israeli claims questioning its capability to fulfill its mission in southern Lebanon. The army emphasized that its operations have been documented by the committee responsible for overseeing the cessation of hostilities.
The conflict focuses on a military facility in Kfarra, Bint Jbeil district, where Israel accused the Lebanese army of failing to prevent Hezbollah activity. The army reported that its units commenced operations at the facility in December 2025, halting them on March 16 following Israeli threats of an attack. This suspension was at the request of the monitoring committee, which was informed of the presence of weapons and ammunition. Israel later struck the facility.
Efforts to resume operations were reportedly blocked by Israel until work recommenced on August 15 in coordination with the committee. The facility was eventually cleared and permanently closed on October 16, According to Lebanese army.
The army also challenged Israeli footage allegedly showing Hezbollah transporting weapons, asserting it was filmed on July 3 near Seddikine shortly after a framework agreement was signed. The army maintained that its actions were fully documented by the monitoring committee and reaffirmed its commitment to existing agreements while accusing Israel of continuous attacks and violations.
Earlier, Israeli military spokeswoman Ella Waweya accused the Lebanese army of failing to curb Hezbollah's activity south of the Litani River. She alleged that Hezbollah continued to operate at the Kfarra facility, moving weapons and equipment from the site, and presented footage she claimed showed the group transporting arms by truck.
Since March 2, Israel has conducted attacks on Lebanon, resulting in thousands of casualties and displacing over 1.5 million people. A US-sponsored framework agreement signed on June 26 between Lebanon and Israel provided for a gradual Israeli withdrawal, Lebanese army deployment, and Hezbollah's disarmament. However, Israel's attacks on southern Lebanon have persisted, and Israeli forces continue to occupy Lebanese territories.
