Lebanese Army Uncovers Israeli Spy Devices in Southern Lebanon

Beirut: The Lebanese army on Wednesday announced the discovery of Israeli spy devices in southern Lebanon, marking a significant development in the ongoing tensions between the two nations. Specialized army units uncovered the devices during engineering surveying operations in the region.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Lebanese army's specialized teams identified two spy devices planted by the Israeli army. These devices were strategically hidden inside trees and rocks, equipped with cameras and sensors to gather intelligence. The army released photos of the surveillance equipment and confirmed that relevant units have dismantled them.

The Israeli army has not yet commented on this development. This discovery comes amid a fragile ceasefire in Lebanon that has been in place since November 27, effectively ending months of cross-border warfare between Israel and Hezbollah. The conflict, which escalated into a full-scale confrontation last September, has seen numerous violations.

Lebanese authorities have reported over 1,000 Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement, resulting in the deaths of at least 83 victims and injuries to 280 others. Under the terms of the ceasefire, Israel was required to fully withdraw from southern Lebanon by January 26. However, the deadline was extended to February 18 after Israel refused to comply, and it still maintains a military presence at five border outposts.
