Lebanese President and Iranian Foreign Minister Advocate for Diplomacy in Regional Conflicts

Beirut:Lebanese President Joseph Aoun received a phone call from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Wednesday to discuss the regional situation amid recent developments.

According to Anadolu Agency, both leaders agreed on supporting diplomatic solutions as the most effective means of resolving regional conflicts.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry later reported that Araghchi emphasized the importance of halting Israeli attacks on Lebanon and ending the occupation of areas in the south of the country. During the call, Araghchi also updated Aoun on Iran's recent diplomatic efforts, and both leaders discussed ways to expand bilateral relations and maintain ongoing communication between their countries' officials.

This conversation occurs against a backdrop of continued regional tensions, with Israeli attacks on Lebanon persisting despite a US-sponsored framework agreement for gradual Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory. Meanwhile, Iran and the US remain divided over navigation issues in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, amid increasing maritime tensions.
