Lebanese President Anticipates Positive Results from Meeting with Trump

Beirut: Lebanon's president expressed optimism regarding his forthcoming visit to Washington, where he will meet with US President Donald Trump, expecting beneficial outcomes for Lebanon, as per a statement from the presidency.

According to Anadolu Agency, a senior Lebanese source revealed that Joseph Aoun has been invited to Washington on July 21 for discussions with Trump. The dialogue will center on implementing the US-mediated framework agreement, Lebanon's stance on regional developments, and enhancing bilateral relations between Beirut and Washington.

During a meeting with a delegation from the International Federation of Lebanese Businessmen and Businesswomen, Aoun stated, "I expect my upcoming visit to Washington and my meeting with US President Donald Trump to bring positive results for Lebanon." He emphasized that the visit signifies US backing in seeking a lasting resolution to ongoing conflicts and Israeli aggressions in Lebanon, aiming to establish stability throughout the Middle East.

Aoun elaborated on his choice of negotiations, stating, "I chose negotiations because I could not stand watching my country being led toward the abyss in the service of another country's interests." He believes this step could halt the Israeli 'machine' of destruction and genocide, reduce civilian and village casualties, and eventually terminate the occupation.

He asserted that the decision garners widespread support among Lebanese, particularly within the Shiite community, who have borne significant losses due to the wars in the south. The framework agreement, signed by Lebanon and Israel on June 26, outlines a phased Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory.

Additionally, Lebanon's Health Ministry reported on Tuesday that the death toll from Israeli attacks on Lebanon since March 2 has increased to 4,320, with 12,203 others injured.
