Athens: Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Monday urged the complete and impartial execution of a US-mediated framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel, emphasizing that it should be implemented 'by both sides, without selectivity.' Aoun made this statement following a meeting with his Greek counterpart, Konstantinos Tasoulas, during his official visit to Athens, as reported by the Lebanese presidency on the US social media platform X.

According to Anadolu Agency, Aoun stressed Lebanon's exhaustion from prolonged conflicts and underscored the negotiations with Israel as a means to terminate the ongoing hostility. He appealed to Greece for assistance in ensuring the framework agreement's implementation. "We are determined to end the state of hostility, and the solution lies in diplomacy, not war," Aoun asserted.

The Lebanese president also conveyed his gratitude to Athens for its comprehensive support towards Lebanon, encompassing political, humanitarian, and military domains. He expressed Lebanon's intent to enhance its relations with Greece across various levels to benefit their shared interests. "Lebanon's stability is essential to the stability of the region and Europe, and any instability there would have broad negative repercussions," Aoun stated, highlighting the importance of international support, particularly from Greece.

Since early March, Israel has intensified its military operations in southern Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah. In retaliation, Hezbollah has attacked Israeli forces stationed in the region, effectively ending a ceasefire that had been maintained since late 2024.

In June, Lebanon and Israel signed a US-endorsed framework agreement, which outlined a phased Israeli withdrawal from the occupied Lebanese territories and the deployment of the Lebanese military in the vacated areas. The agreement also calls for the disarmament of armed groups, including Hezbollah, as part of its broader objectives to stabilize the region.
