Ankara: Libya considers Trkiye its 'number one' strategic trade partner in infrastructure, the oil industry, energy, health, and economic development, Mohammed al-Huwayj, Libya's minister of economy and trade, told Anadolu.

According to Anadolu Agency, Al-Huwayj emphasized that Libya is focused on diversifying its economy swiftly, with energy identified as a crucial sector due to its impact on transportation, agriculture, services, and industry. He noted, "Trkiye's experience in these fields is considered the best in the short term, and we will benefit from it."

Al-Huwayj also highlighted ongoing efforts between Libya and Trkiye to finalize a free trade agreement. He stated that preparations are underway to renew previous agreements and memorandums of understanding between the two nations, aiming to boost investments. He further mentioned that both countries, as members of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, are nearing an agreement to eliminate double taxation.

"We will meet with the Turkish trade minister and other relevant ministries to finalize a free trade agreement and resolve challenges between the two countries," he said. Al-Huwayj added that the Libyan private sector and businesspeople prioritize Trkiye, considering it a long-term strategic partner crucial for Libya's upcoming phase of economic development.

Additionally, Al-Huwayj expressed Libya's interest in Trkiye's participation in oil exploration, refining, petrochemical activities, and oil services, welcoming Turkish firms with promises of necessary facilities provided by the Libyan ministry.
