Benghazi:Libya's House of Representatives has unanimously approved a maritime boundary agreement with Turkey, reversing its previous stance on the deal and its decision to sever political ties with Ankara.
According to Anadolu Agency, a statement from the Libyan parliament in Benghazi detailed that lawmakers voted in favor of the memorandum of understanding. This agreement, originally signed between Turkey and Libya's former Government of National Accord, concerns the delimitation of maritime jurisdiction areas in the Mediterranean Sea.
The parliament's decision also repealed Resolution No. 1 of 2020, which had previously rejected the ratification of the memorandums of understanding between Libya and Turkey. In addition, lawmakers unanimously voted to overturn Resolution No. 6 of 2020, which had called for cutting political relations with Ankara.
The maritime jurisdiction agreement was initially signed by Turkey and Libya in November 2019, aiming to establish the boundaries of their respective maritime areas in the Mediterranean. This recent vote signifies a significant shift from the Libyan parliament's earlier opposition to the agreements and its previous stance on relations with Turkey.
